Wellhead Plan

Residents of the City of Barnesville rely on groundwater for their drinking water supply. The City owns and operates 2 wells located inside the corporate limits of the community. The wells draw water from a groundwater aquifer located approximately 80 feet below the land surface. Groundwater aquifers are vulnerable to contamination from human land use activities.

The City of Barnesville, in cooperation with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), have developed a Wellhead Protection Plan. Implementation of this plan is a way to prevent drinking water from becoming polluted by managing possible sources of contamination in an area which supplies water to a public well.
