In 1995, the City of Barnesville, Barnesville Township and Humboldt Township established a Joint Powers Area with the goal to create a framework for cooperative land use planning in areas adjacent or within close proximity to city limits, along the major transportation routes into Barnesville. A six member board representing each of these governmental units oversees the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance for that geographic area. In 2010, a new Comprehensive Plan was adopted. That document and a map showing that area can be accessed here.
